~ WOW! Moments: My Story~

God continues to stretch me in my faith and open many doors for me to minister across the country.

After one talk, a lady came up to me and handed me a piece of folded lined paper, ragged on the edge as if hastily torn from a notebook. She quickly left the book table before I could inquire further.

My mind raced momentarily to determine what could possibly be in her note, but the present occupation of my attention meant I would have to wait.

Later that evening, I found time to pull out the note. On it she had written, “I just want to say thank you. Sorry for giving you a note but God took my daughter home to be with Him 4 years ago. This has really been hard for me especially today because it’s her birthday. Thanks again. I’m giving you this note because I don’t want to break down and cry.

Wow! It broke my heart. On that day, my talk wasn’t even about “Perfect in Weakness.” A brief testimony about the loss of our two boys was given at the end, but not the full presentation about the faith lessons we had learned from our twins.

Her note keeps me humble because it is a reminder of why I do what I do. God impressed upon my heart to take a word of encouragement to those who had suffered loss, to speak truth to help build stronger marriages, and in all things to point people to Christ.

Her note also reminds me that as a speaker I will never know who is in the audience or what word of encouragement they need. But God knows. Therefore, I must be prayed up and surrendered to His leading whenever I stand to speak because the Scripture He brings to mind or the personal story used as an illustration may touch someone in a way that I could not have imagined. Her note is a reminder that it is not about me, but it is all about the Savior and His plan.
